Johnny Mañana’s, which closed in East Falls in 2016 after almost 15 years, is getting a second life in Callowhill. Owner Tim Bonnie revives his Mexican-American eatery this week in its new home in the Goldtex apartment building at 315 N. 12th Street, in what was previously Brick & Mortar. It’s open now.
Bonnie and co-owner Bianca DeSantis went kitschy for the look — it’s almost a caricature of what Mexican restaurants in the U.S. often look like, with a sombrero and mustache on the logo, Day of the Dead decor, and an Aztec-style design on the wall.
They’re calling the food Mexican and Southwestern. Look for tacos, fajitas, burritos, wings, and nachos. The signature drink here is a $5 classic margarita (also available in a 32-ounce version for $10).
The restaurant will start with dinner and add lunch hours later this month. Next door is coffee shop Elixir, which opened in the building last year.
